Mineral Wool Insulation in the GTA
Overview
About Mineral Wool Insulation
Mineral wool, also called stone wool, is made from rock spun into fibres and pressed into dense batts. It is heavier and stiffer than fiberglass, holds its shape in the cavity, and does not burn, which makes it a common choice for partition walls, basements, and assemblies where fire separation or sound control is part of the design.
KHG Insulation Services installs mineral-wool batts in wood-stud and steel-stud framing for houses, renovations, additions, and commercial interiors across the GTA. The batts are friction-fitted between the framing, so they stay in place in walls and between floor joists without being fastened.
Because the batts are dense, they cut cleanly and can be trimmed tightly around boxes, pipes, and wiring. As with any batt, the result depends on filling the cavity completely, without gaps at the plates or voids behind services.

What the Service Involves
- Reviewing the assembly
- We confirm the framing, cavity depth, and whether the wall or floor is thermal, acoustic, or part of a rated assembly on the drawings.
- Selecting the product
- Batt thickness and width are matched to the stud or joist spacing. Where a specific product is specified, we install what the drawings call for.
- Friction-fit installation
- Batts are cut slightly oversize and pressed into the cavity so they hold against the framing without sagging.
- Fitting around services
- Batts are trimmed and split around wiring, boxes, pipes, and ducts so the full cavity is filled.
- Ready for close-in
- Walls and ceilings are checked for gaps before the vapour-control layer, where required, and drywall follow.
Applications
Typical Project Applications
- Exterior walls in renovations and new builds
- Interior partitions between bedrooms, bathrooms, and offices
- Floor and ceiling cavities between levels
- Framed basement walls
- Garage walls and ceilings
- Steel-stud commercial interiors
Materials
Insulation Materials Used
Thermal mineral-wool batts
Batts sized for exterior wall and ceiling cavities, used where thermal performance is the main goal.
Acoustic mineral-wool batts
Lighter-density batts for interior partitions and floors, used to reduce airborne sound between rooms.
Benefits
Why Mineral Wool Insulation Matters
Holds its shape
Dense batts stay in place in the cavity and are less prone to sagging or slumping over time.
Sound control
Mineral wool in partitions and floors helps reduce airborne sound moving between rooms.
Non-combustible
Stone wool does not burn, which is why it is often specified where fire separation is required.
Moisture tolerant
Mineral wool sheds water and does not absorb it like some other materials, though it still needs a properly detailed assembly.
What to Expect
From First Call to Installation
- 01
Tell us about the project
Call 289-889-2786 or use the quote form to describe the walls or floors to be insulated, and share drawings if you have them.
- 02
Scope review
We review the framing, the areas involved, and any specified products or rated assemblies before quoting.
- 03
Clear quotation
The quote sets out the areas, material, and thickness, based on the project rather than a fixed package.
- 04
Installation
Batts are installed once rough-ins are complete and before drywall, coordinated with your schedule.
