Soundproofing Insulation for Homes & Offices
Overview
About Soundproofing Insulation
Most interior walls and floors in houses are built with empty cavities. Sound passes through them easily, which is why a television in the basement or a conversation in the next office can carry so clearly. Filling those cavities with acoustic insulation is one of the most practical steps in quieting a space.
KHG Insulation Services installs mineral-wool acoustic batts in interior partitions, basement ceilings, bedroom and bathroom walls, and commercial office partitions. We work in open framing during renovations, finished basements, and new builds, and coordinate with your contractor on how the rest of the assembly will be completed.
Insulation reduces sound transmission, but it does not soundproof a room by itself. The result depends on the full assembly: drywall layers, resilient channel or clips, sealed gaps, flanking paths through floors and ducts, and the doors. Some of that work is done by other trades.

What the Service Involves
- Interior partitions
- Filling stud cavities in walls between bedrooms, bathrooms, home offices, and media rooms with acoustic batts cut to fit around boxes and services.
- Basement ceilings
- Installing acoustic batts between floor joists before the basement ceiling is closed, to reduce noise between the basement and the main floor.
- Floor and ceiling assemblies
- Insulating joist bays between storeys, including around ductwork and plumbing where the framing allows.
- Office partitions
- Installing acoustic insulation in steel-stud partitions for offices, meeting rooms, and tenant separations, following the specified wall type.
- Full-cavity fit
- Placing batts to fill the cavity without compression or gaps, since voids around outlets and pipes let sound through.

Materials
Insulation Materials Used
Mineral-wool acoustic batts
Dense stone-wool batts made for sound absorption in wall and floor cavities, sized for wood or steel stud spacing.
Fibreglass acoustic batts
Lighter acoustic batts used where the project specification calls for them or where they suit the assembly.
Benefits
Why Soundproofing Insulation Matters
Less noise between rooms
Filled cavities absorb sound that would otherwise move freely through hollow walls and floors.
More private spaces
Bedrooms, bathrooms, and offices are less affected by conversation and activity next door.
Better use of a basement
An insulated basement ceiling helps a family room or home office coexist with the rest of the house.
Practical during renovations
Adding acoustic insulation while walls are open costs far less effort than opening them later.
