Wall Insulation for Renovations & New Builds
Overview
About Wall Insulation
Walls are one of the largest surfaces in a building’s envelope, and the best time to insulate them is when the framing is open. KHG Insulation Services insulates open walls in new construction, additions and interior renovations where the drywall or plaster has been removed.
Exterior walls are insulated for thermal performance as part of the overall wall assembly, with the vapour-control layer and any exterior insulation defined by the project’s design. Interior walls can be insulated for sound control between bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and other rooms.
Our wall work applies to open framing only. If you are planning a renovation in Brampton, Toronto or home insulation work in Caledon, the time to arrange insulation is after the rough-ins are complete and before the walls are closed.

What the Service Involves
- Reviewing the wall assembly
- We confirm framing type, cavity depth and the vapour-control and exterior insulation called for by the project.
- Exterior wall insulation
- Cavities in exterior walls are filled completely with batts sized to the framing, fitted at plates, corners and openings.
- Working around services
- Batts are split around wiring and trimmed around boxes, pipes and ducts so the full cavity is filled.
- Interior acoustic insulation
- Interior partitions are insulated to reduce sound transfer between rooms, usually with mineral wool.
- Ready for close-in
- Walls are checked for gaps and compressed areas so the vapour barrier and drywall can follow.
Applications
Typical Project Applications
- Gutted walls during interior renovations
- New homes and custom builds
- Additions and garage conversions
- Exterior walls in wood-frame construction
- Steel-stud walls in commercial spaces
- Interior partitions for sound control
Materials
Insulation Materials Used
Fiberglass batts
A common choice for exterior walls, available in thicknesses for standard stud depths.
Mineral-wool batts
Denser, non-combustible batts used for exterior walls, interior acoustic walls and some fire-rated assemblies.
Benefits
Why Wall Insulation Matters
Reduced heat loss
Fully filled exterior cavities slow heat transfer through the walls in winter and summer.
Quieter rooms
Insulated interior walls reduce airborne sound between living spaces.
Fewer cold surfaces
Complete coverage at corners, plates and openings avoids cold patches on finished walls.
Done at the right stage
Insulating while the walls are open lets the job be done properly and inspected before close-in.
